Anna Gustafson

In 1998, Vancouver comic Anna Gustafson packed all her belongings into her little red shifter car and relocated to Toronto.  When asked why, Anna says “Gotta learn how to pee with the comedy big boys and I hear Toronto is a decent sized toilet.”

With a history of bold moves (commercial deck handing, extreme mountain biking, falling for a man with teenage children ), Anna’s style is a little gentler than most.  She prefers self-deprecation to confrontation, clean over dirty, and her clever material quickly established her as one to watch.  As one reviewer put it, “A female comic without being a chick comic.”

Born and raised in a tiny, predominantly Scandinavian fishing village of Lund, British Columbia, it’s not surprising that her family and friends back home don’t exactly understand her comedy career aspirations.  However, audiences clear across North America certainly do.

Anna’s fun, creative material and writing skills has attracted television producers along the way.  She won high praise for her episode of CBC’s Comics which was included in “The Best Of” first year out.  You’ll recognize her from her many appearances on television as well as Comedy Festivals nation wide.  And that voice!  The combination of Swedish heritage and west coast upbringing makes for a delightfully unique lilt that you’ll hear on XM Satellite and CBC Radio.

Now an avid golfer, Anna’s quest is to let the world understand that “avid” doesn’t necessarily mean “good”.  She is happy to have finally found a pastime that effortlessly contributes to her body of material and has learned that most of life’s frustrations can be worked out with a driver and a bucket of balls.
